Continued Discipleship
“Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing.
Mary has chosen the better part
and it will not be taken from her.”
Fr. Luke’s Message
Hello from Mexico City! This year I am spending my vacation with a group of college students on a mission trip to the largest city in North America! We are serving the poor in a local landfill and also doing visits to a women’s shelter. I’m expecting to be perfectly fluent in just two short weeks. Not!
Interestingly, we are staying two blocks away from the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Little known fact, Mexico City was also the capital city of the Aztec Empire & the central temple of the empire, where multiple sacrifices happened daily, human sacrifices! It is now the location of the Shrine! Now, Mass is said here where the true sacrifice is offered ‘once and for all’ – the Body and Blood of Jesus. This is not the body and blood of mere mortals, but God Himself! Marvelously, after the apparition of our Lady of Guadalupe, the nation was converted within an inexplicably short time.
Leadership Summit
On August 3, our parish will have our very first Leadership Summit. This day will include time to prayerfully consider our individual gifts and talents, and how we might best serve the community with those gifts. Participants will also be equipped with some of the concrete skills needed to lead in parish ministry. Hopefully, this will become the first of many Leadership Summits!
Our mission this week is twofold:
- Pray for the Leadership Summit
- Discern whether you should be there.
If you’re ready to take the next step as a disciple of Jesus by serving in a leadership role, please contact the office to RSVP. Meals and childcare will be available.
